* Home Visit for International Students
This was held in the afternoon on November 22 (Sat). Japanese families were visited by 13 int'l students from different countries who are enrolled universities including Tokyo Institute of Technology.

* Bus tour to Lake Yamanaka
Held on October 19 (Sun)
Thirty-six international students from 16 different countries joined the bus tour. After strolling though "Oshino-hakkai," known for its eight ponds filled with springwater, we ate "Houtou-nabe," a hot pot dish with
flat noodles in soup--specialty of the region--in a restaurant facing Lake Yamanaka. Mt.Fuji stood out with bright clarity in the afternoon.
It was an enjoyable, fulfilling tour.

* Introduction of Traditional Japanese Culture fro International Students (Ikebana, Tea Ceremony, Calligraphy)
Held on October 11 (Sat.) at MIFA and a Japanese Tatami room in Meguro City Office
Seventeen international students from 10 different countries experienced Japanese culture.

* Language and culture learned from Mongolian students (Tea served)
-Lecture is conducted in Japanese.
Held on September 13, 20, 27, October 4 (Sat) 13:30-15:00
A total number of 40 Japanese attended lecture given by 2 Vietnamese Students of Tokyo Institute of Technology.
Voices of participants:
- The Mongolian students were so friendly.
- I was happy to get to know culture about which I had only little knowledge.
- The content is so expansive--from Mongolian traditions to useful Mongolian conversations for travelers-- that I really enjoyed it.
- If there had been only introduction to Mongolian cumulus or Mongolian conversation, it would have been no different from watching the same programs on TV; however, the program was not like this as Mongolian students talked to attendees, who felt closer to the country.

* Watch "Sumo" for international Students
Watch Sumo (a Japanese-style wrestling) September 20 (Sat.)
Twenty eight international students from 12 different countries and Japanese volunteers watched Grand Sumo September Tournament at Ryogoku Kokugikan, which was full of guests. International students were apparently very excited to watch aggressive bouts of wresters, making it their precious encounter with Japanese culture.

* Indian Math learned from Indian Students
Time : July 12 (Sat.) 13:00-15:30
Instructor : Mr. Marisamy Muthuraman, PhD Student at Tokyo Institute of Technology, Dept. of Environmental Science & Technology school students and int'l students.
The workshop consisted of lecture about a history of arithematics and mathematics in India, as well as workshop of Indian mathematics.
(Following is the gist of a report about the workshop contributed by Mr. Murayama, interpreter/volunteer of MIFA.)
・Arithematics and mathemantics are nothing but thinking systematicall like a logical thinking. Once familiare with mathematics, so are you with logical thinking. Indians naturally have possessed internationally an edge in technologies in computers and softwares.
・Of arithmentaics, multiplication is one of the most important element. Mastering mental coputations will enable drasticall incrase the speed of calculations.
Comment
・Pupils learn times talbes in two digits, whereas Indians transform multiplications into additions, making questions simpler. In fact Japanese unconsciously uses this formula when caluculatioing on times tables.
・I believe Learning to enjoy mathematics may increase mathematics fans.

* Home Visits for Int’l Students
This was held in the afternoon on June 21 (Sat.)
Japanese families were visited by 21 int’l students from 16 different countries who are enrolled universities including Tokyo Institute of Technology. The families have forwarded to MIFA comments such as “We were nervous for a while; later, however, our student seemed to be fascinated by Japanese sweets. We had a great time,” or “Even with time constraints, the country that the student is from seemed to be closer after we talked.”
Another home visit is planned to be held in Autumn.

* Cooking
We cooked hand-wrapped sushi on May 31 (Sat.). This event was attended by 18 international students/ their families from 11 different countries as well as 17 Japanese/ their families. Indonesian students prepared chicken curry and deep-fried dumplings, while Vietnamese students made spring rolls and Nepalese students cooked vegetable dishes.

* Bus tour
We visited Edo Tokyo Open Air Museum in Koganei City on May 18. Participants included 23 international students/ their families from 11 different countries as well as 14Japanese.
